Vacancy – Hospitality Manager

The Kent & East Sussex Railway is one of the UK’s most loved heritage railways, located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are now seeking a Hospitality Manager. The successful applicant will undertake a variety of duties leading our Hospitality team, with a strong focus on our Retail offering. The position will be based at Tenterden Town Station, but you’ll need the flexibility to work in other locations less easily accessible by public transport, so access to private transport and a full driving licence is essential. You must be able to work quickly and consistently under pressure, yet always with pride; you will have proven experience within the retail trade, the ability to lead a mixed team of volunteers and remunerated colleagues, copious enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard.

Key Skills:

  • Proactively manage safety in the workplace with a rolling program of risk assessment reviews
  • Ensure legislative requirements are met
  • Take a leading role in the day to day management of the hospitality team
  • Maximise Retail & Catering profitability by keeping abreast of market trends
  • Recruit and develop volunteer staff to minimise the need for remunerated employees
  • Work closely with the Commercial team in the production of promotional materials
  • Proactively manage customer feedback to maintain reputation
  • Manage retail & catering budgets & maintain accurate records of purchases & sales
  • Develop a close working relationship with other Department Managers
  • Take a leading role in the development of new ideas for enhancing hospitality services
  • Possess good IT skills, including the management of EPOS and online sales portals
  • Have excellent communication skills and a positive disposition
  • Ability to work on own initiative or as directed
  • Demonstrate consistently high standards, with a keen eye for visual merchandising
  • Must be punctual and reliable at all times

Candidates should be flexible and able to work shifts any day of the week. This position may require lone working.

Hours of work will be 37½ hours across up to 5 days per week.
