K&ESR volunteer chief stationmaster Geoff Colvin received his VisitEngland Tourism Superstar award at a glittering awards ceremony and dinner last week (Wednesday 7th June 2023) and he couldn't have had a more appropriate backdrop!
The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence were held at Warner Brothers Studios 'The Making of Harry Potter' and Geoff received his trophy from VisitEngland CEO Patricia Yates (right of the photo) and congratulations from Awards compere Alex Polizzi (left) on stage in front of the Hogwarts Express on, of course Platform 9 3/4s!
Geoff steamed to victory in the Awards at the end of March after he received 33 per cent of an online public vote, ahead of nine other worthy finalists from tourist venues and attractions across England.
Geoff is the first representative from a heritage railway in the Award’s 11-year history to not only be shortlisted but to ultimately win the coveted title.
The prestigious annual competition, which is run in partnership with the Mirror newspaper, recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry and is awarded to an individual who goes the extra mile to create exceptional visitor experiences.
