Right sign, right place!

Right sign, right place!

A historic moment took place yesterday (Wednesday 31st May 2023) as the direction sign to Tenterden Town station was reinstated on the wall of The Vine Inn on Tenterden High Street, almost 70 years after it was removed when the light railway closed to passengers.

The installation was witnessed by K&ESR Chair Simon Marsh (left in the photo), K&ESR General Manager Dr Robin Coombes (centre) and newly-appointed Mayor of Tenterden Cllr Sue Ferguson (right).

The station direction sign would have first appeared on the wall of the public house building sometime in 1903 when the station opened; photos kept by the Tenterden Town Museum show the sign in place by 1905, while other postcards show that it was missing in 1954.

The original sign has been lost but this replica was made and installed by Miles Signs with the permission of Shepherd Neame which owns the Vine.
