Vacancy – Service Delivery Officer

The Kent & East Sussex Railway is one of the UK’s most loved heritage railways, located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are now seeking a full time Service Delivery Officer to undertake a variety of duties associated with the provision of our train services. The position will be based at Tenterden Town Station, but you’ll need the flexibility to work in other locations less easily accessible by public transport, so access to private transport and a full driving licence is essential. You must be able to work quickly and consistently under pressure, the ability to motivate a mixed team of volunteers and remunerated colleagues, copious enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard.

Key Skills:

  • Proactively manage safety in the workplace
  • Ensure legislative requirements are met
  • Have extensive knowledge of heritage railway operation and experience of managing competence and Safety Critical Work
  • Have a good working knowledge of ROGS, Safety Management Systems and Health and Safety at Work.
  • Assist with the development of volunteer staff to minimise the need for remunerated employees
  • Take a leading role in the provision of Railway Experience Courses
  • Be capable of delivering engaging staff induction and training courses
  • Be confident in undertaking “hands on” tasks to assist with the repair and maintenance of operating infrastructure
  • Develop a close working relationship with other Department Managers
  • Possess good IT skills, including MS Office
  • Have excellent communication skills and a positive disposition
  • Be self-motivated, and equally confident when working on personal initiative or as directed
  • Demonstrate consistently high standards
  • Must be punctual and reliable at all times

Candidates should be flexible and able to work shifts any day of the week. This position may require lone working.

Hours of work will be 37½ hour week, with flexible working around the operating requirements of the company. Some evening, weekend, Bank Holiday and on call working is required. 20 days paid holiday per year.
