In 1872 the first of the Stroudley designed ‘Terriers’, No. 72 ‘Fenchurch’ entered service. This locomotive was the first of fifty that were built between the years of 1872 and 1880 and it is a testimony to the design there are still 10 examples in existence.
The Kent & East Sussex Railway has been synonymous with 'Terriers' since purchasing the 1872 built No. 70 'Poplar' in 1901. Having spent most of its life on the Railway, to celebrate its 150th anniversary we commissioned 'Poplar's overhaul, with the locomotive now undergoing her restoration to her original livery of Stroudley 'improved engine green'.
The second 'Terrier' No. 78 'Knowle' completes this celebratory brace of Stroudley's locomotives. 'Knowle' today carries the plain black Southern livery with 'sunshine' lettering and entered service on the Railway in 2021.
This Limited Edition of 500 sets has been produced with the full cooperation of The Kent & East Sussex Railway and loco owners, The Terrier Trust.
