Vintage Terrier Locomotive “Knowle” hauling services
KESR Terrier 2678 arrives at Rolvenden with the Vintage Set in tow. The vintage carriages offer a real taste how people travelled 120 years ago.

Terrier returns to service on K&ESR

This weekend sees our Victorian Terrier “Knowle” hauling our vintage compartment coaches on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September, departing Tenterden at 11:45 and 14:20.

It is intended that Knowle will operate these same departures for weekends in September 2021 – including the  11th & 12th September when our popular “1940’s weekend” event returns to the railway.

Knowle first saw service on our railway in 1940 and pulled the final passenger train when the line closed 60 years ago this year.

After a brief spell operating on Hayling Island branch towards the end of an astonishing operational career – she had covered nearly a million miles by the time the Southern Railway was formed in 1923 – she was sold to Butlin’s in 1964, becoming an exhibit in the children’s playground at Minehead. Fortunately, she was rescued and brought back to working order at K&ESR.
