A Treat for the Over 60's
Pensioners are being offered a bargain day out on the beautiful Kent & East Sussex steam railway. On more than 30 days during the coming season, the over-60s can travel for just £13, saving £5.
The line runs from Tenterden to Bodiam, through spectacular countryside across the Kent-Sussex border. The 21-mile roundtrip takes around one hour 45 minutes.
The railway’s facilities have been carefully designed with disabled, elderly and less mobile visitors in mind. There are parking spaces for Blue Badge holders next to the platform at Tenterden Town and Northiam, and accessible toilets at Tenterden, Northiam and Bodiam stations.
One coach, Petros, is specially designed for wheelchair users and has ramped access, wide aisles, an accessible toilet and moveable seating.
Tenterden station’s licensed restaurant offers ‘daily specials’ and a children’s menu. Visitors can pre-order a cream tea or ploughman’s lunch to enjoy during the trip and there is a munch box option for children.
The entertaining and award-winning Colonel Stephens Railway Museum at Tenterden is FREE entry. The restaurant, gift shop and museum are all wheelchair friendly.
Bodiam Castle, with its picturesque views, is a short walk from Bodiam station and offers railway passengers a discount.
A pre-ordered picnic hamper can be ready to collect when you arrive at Tenterden station, complete with napkins, cutlery and condiments.
